You can read or listen to the interview below:
What is your role at CMO?
I am a HubSpot Marketing Assistant, so I basically assist a variety of projects within HubSpot - building, updating and fixing things. I also do a lot of research on how to better use the platform when questions arise in our meetings with clients. I usually have a Technologist or a Consultant to work closely with and lately I’ve been more involved on Jen Bergren’s projects.
What is your favorite HubSpot tool?
That’s a difficult question as HubSpot has so many amazing tools. I'd say I have a lot of fun building things within HubSpot - like landing pages and website pages. I also love Email Marketing and enjoy the entire process from creating lists, to creating content, A/B testing and then analyzing performance to make improvements.
What’s the best thing about remote life?
So many things! I really value the improved quality of life by not having to commute, or spend time getting ready - as often the corporate office can be a bit of a fashion show. I like wearing comfortable clothes, eating homemade food, and just being able to make my own schedule to fit my personal and professional priorities.
What is your biggest achievement to date?
I am living my biggest achievement right now! I was born and raised in Brazil, so learning English and changing careers has been quite a journey for me, but I am so grateful it’s finally happening. I also just completed my 200 hour training to become a certified yoga teacher, which was also a very, inspirational and transformative experience.
What blogs, Podcasts, groups, etc. would you recommend our readers follow?
With regards to marketing education, I’ve been spending some serious time taking HubSpot certifications and am always expanding my knowledge of the platform. I also like to listen to Marie Forleo's podcast, Gary Vaynerchuck, and the Unthinkable by Jay Acunzo.
When my mind needs a break from marketing and business related learnings I like Brain Pickings blog, Ann Friedman's newsletter, and the Guildsomm podcast. I worked as a sommelier in my past life and still have a passion for wine.
What do you do when you are not Hubspotting for our clients?
You can find me practicing yoga and reading, but I also love finding new places to eat and drink in San Diego.
What is your motto or personal mantra?
I think my yoga practice has helped me to tune into my intuition more. I think its extremely important to always listen to what we already know to be true and trust that we know ourselves best and what we truly need and want. We all have access to this at anytime, but our busy, often overwhelming lifestyles can cause self doubt, fear, and the need for external validation by not giving us the time and space we need to become still, contemplate and make sound, rational decisions with love and compassion.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Watching too many episodes of a show, while eating way too much chocolate.
Do you have a unique talent?
I am pretty good at learning new things - especially languages. I am now fluent in English, about 70% fluent in Spanish, and want to learn French next.
Where do you live and why do you love living there?
I live in Hillcrest, San Diego. It’s a lovely neighborhood with a lot of things to do within walking distance. I enjoy going out to bars and restaurants, and there’s a small movie theatre with independent and foreign films, which I love as well. It’s also a pretty central area, so I am close to cool places like Balboa Park and the Gaslamp District in downtown San Diego.
*Since this interview Mariana has been promoted to HubSpot Marketing Coordinator, so her role has changed.
